60th Annual Big Rock Blue Marlin Tournament

June 8, 2018 - June 16, 2018

The 2018 Big Rock Tournament will take place June 8-16, 2018 in Morehead City, North Carolina. Among the largest and oldest sport fishing tournaments in the country, The Big Rock calls avid deep-sea fishermen to North Carolina’s Crystal Coast for a full week of angling and community celebration.

This year’s Big Rock Tournament is the 60th anniversary of its inception—a true testament to the spirit of Carteret County. Over the course of the last half-century, many boats have docked here, many tourists have gathered here, and many Morehead City natives have come and gone. Our mission has always stayed the same: to represent the sportfishing community as superbly as only Morehead City can! A large part of that mission is in generating funds for causes that affect our loved ones and neighbors.

Who was Blackbeard and Why do we Care?

June 9, 2018 | 12:00 pm-1:50 pm

Baylus C. Brooks, Kevin Duffus, David Moore, and Lindley Butler in a panel discussion (A FREE event!)

The life of Blackbeard the Pirate has become enmeshed in legends and lore over the past three centuries, so much so, that it is often difficult to separate fact from myth. These historians have spent decades researching historical records trying to shed some light on the life of the infamous pirate, the man behind the legend that grew into Blackbeard. This panel will present recently discovered facts about Blackbeard and pirates in North Carolina.

Dive Educators is heading to the Graveyard of the Atlantic!

June 13, 2018 | 7:00 am - June 16, 2018 | 4:00 pm

Interested in a historical diving adventure? June 13 - 16, 2018, Dive Educators is heading to Morehead City, NC to dive The Graveyard of the Atlantic with Olympus Dive Center. The Graveyard of the Atlantic gets its name from the estimated 2000 shipwrecks scattered along the North Carolina coastline. Voted #1 Wreck Diving in North America by Scuba Diving magazine's 2007 Readers' Poll, many of these historic vessels are accessible to divers.

Some of the most impressive wrecks are the World War II casualties - vessels fallen prey to Hitler's U-boat fleet as they traversed the offshore waters. Tankers, cargo ships, British fishing trawlers, and even German submarines, form impressive underwater monuments to this tumultuous segment of our maritime heritage. Among others, a World War I gunboat, a late 18th century schooner, and an early 20th century luxury liner exist in North Carolina's unparalleled collection of dive-able history.

Cost: $690.00/Person - Includes: 4 days of diving (2 tank dives), lodging, & taxes. $150.00 is due at the time of booking and the final payment is due no later than May 5, 2018. Payment options are available.

**An Advanced Open Water certification is required and Nitrox is highly recommended.** Call the shop at (770) 967-8885 to reserve your spot.

Not included: Transportation to and from Morehead City, food, tank

rentals & tank fills.

Cancellation Policy: You have up to 30 days before the date of the trip to cancel for a full refund. After 30 days, we can’t guarantee a full refund. We will make every attempt to sell your seat and if we are able to sell your seat at full price, you will receive a refund less the required $150.00 deposit. If the seat is sold for less than the trip cost, you will receive a refund of the sale price of your seat less the required $150.00 deposit.

Flag Retirement Ceremony

June 14, 2018 | 5:00 pm-7:00 pm

It will surprise many people that the proper way to retire a damaged or tattered flag is to, in fact, burn it – but there is a method. The Beaufort Historic Site’s Living History Program will celebrate Flag Day with a demonstration of the proper procedure for retiring the old Red, White and Blue on Thursday, June 14thfrom 5-6pm on the grounds of the Beaufort Historic Site.

Doug Cawman will lead guests through the official procedure from start to finish. After the flag is cut into pieces, they are ceremoniously burned one by one, starting with the stripes and ending with the blue field. This event is free and open to the public. Guests are encouraged to bring their own flags that might be ready to be retired to take part in the event.

Mark Twain once said, "A Southerner talks music." If this is true, Coastline speaks in volumes. An eclectic blend of soul, blues, and rock has produced the sound known as Coastline. From hard driving Carolina back beats, to Georgia southern rock, from Cajun inspired grooves, to Texas and Delta blues; Coastline truly defines the sound of historical Southern music. With finesse, the pure forms of southern music are transformed into a modern contemporary art form.
